Staggered tells us how to get your Bloke involved in your Wedding!!

How Can I Get My Bloke Involved In Our Wedding?

If there’s one question that we get at http://www.iamstaggered.com/  more than any other it’s this one. Well, that and what’s this I’ve heard about a bacon tuxedo? As the UK’s leading men’s wedding website (we know we’re leading because we’re the only one) we’re well versed in helping men and weddings to get along.

The first pointer we’d give you is to ask him to get involved. It may sound stupid but a lot of blokes are just worried that they’ll get in the way and express an opinion that you won’t like. Let’s be honest about things – you can be a bit bridezilla-ish about wedding things can’t you?

So speak to him, tell him what you’re hoping to do for the wedding and explain why it’s important to you. For the vast majority of blokes just knowing that it will make you happy will be enough to get him motivated.

The most vital point in the process is to ask his opinion. Your bloke may be more from the oil-under-the-fingernails end of the man spectrum but he’ll still have an opinion and you may be surprised about how strongly he feels something. After all, he’s gone to the emotional effort of committing himself to you for the rest of his life, maybe he also feels strongly about the way that commitment is expressed on the wedding day.

If he needs prompting then maybe don’t start asking about the frilly stuff like the bouquets but ask what he’d like for the food, the booze, the speeches, the stag and hen-dos, the suits, the music, the entertainment, the honeymoon, the transport and the guest list and you should provoke some kind of response. If not, mention the bill and that should get him thinking.

Next up, once he’s on-board, set tasks. I’m not going to do down my gender and say that we’re simple creatures because we’re not (in the same way that you women can think about more than just shopping) but men like clearly-defined tasks and that’s what most of us are happy to take on. Especially if it involves hours of pointlessly Googling stuff. If that Googling can take place on work’s time then we’re extra happy. So tell us clearly what you’re looking for and we’ll go out and find it. It’s much like the hunter-gathering we’re genetically programmed to do but with less spearing mammoths and more clicking on hyperlinks.

Finally, don’t underestimate us or worst of all: ignore us. In this post-Beckham world we live in most men realise that you can have a ten minute conversation about flowers without needing to explain you’re not gay. So ask his opinion and if he responds, listen before you start explaining why you’re not going to dress as Princess Leia with the swirly Danish Pastry hair on your big day – because maybe, just maybe, it’s really important to him…

Oh and don’t forget to send him to see his old pal Staggered. We’ve got everything the groom www.iamstaggered.com needs from proposal ideas www.iamstaggered.com/getting-engaged, to how to crack the dreaded wedding speeches www.iamstaggered.com/wedding-speeches.

Bridal Make-Up tips from Jennifer Peffer

BRIDAL MAKE UP TIPS by Make-Up Artist JENNIFER PEFFER

Bridal make-up should do 3 things:

1. Make you look and feel beautiful.

2. Look perfect in you pictures.

3. Last all day and night.

A professional make-up artist will know how to ensure that your make-up does all of these things.

Have a trial roughly 6 weeks before your wedding day. The trial is your opportunity to focus completely on the make-up. On your big day you want to be completely confident, so make sure you are 100% happy at your trial to avoid any stress.

It’s always helpful for a make-up artist to visualize what you would like so take along any images. It’s amazing how one person natural can be another’s dramatic.

Don’t be scared to try looks that the make-up artist suggests, you may find a style you really love, and it’s your trial, its no fuss if you want to wash it off and start again.

Your make-up artist will probably suggest a look that involves natural skin, a defined eye, and neutral or pink lips. This is a very classic & flattering bridal look. The defined eye will look great in photographs, but won’t be too heavy, which is important, as your look has to take you from day to evening.

My top tip is false eyelashes, they are stunning as part of a bridal make-up, you won’t look back!

Finally: Don’t try to look like someone else on your wedding day; you still want to look like you, just a more fabulous version!

Knots & Kisses Wedding Stationery - Vintage themed stationery to wow your guests.

We focus on more wedding stationery this time we chat to Nikki Ward of Knots and Kisses.
 www.knotsandkisses.co.uk  and our blog http://knotsandkisses.blogspot.com

Knots & Kisses Wedding Stationey provides unique handmade wedding stationery, both 'off the peg' collections and a bespoke service. We create invitations and all your matching stationery, including Menus, Order Of Service, Place cards and Table Plans. All our stationery is 100% handmade to suit the couple's requirements. We will quite happily work from swatches of material or any other inspiration to create a bespoke invitation. We pride ourselves on a very personal service. The last thing you want when planning a wedding is not to be able to pick up the phone and have a chat about any changes you may require. Please don't forget to look at our website

The inspirations for our 'Off the Peg' ranges in 2010 had a genuine vintage feel. 'A Country Garden Party', which can be seen in our Ditsy Print and Country Garden ranges, evokes the feeling of 1940's tea parties. Pretty floral china, old glassware and beautiful rose prints are all elements of this. We even made floral bunting to match a bride's wedding stationery to bring the theme together. I think this theme is going to continue to be popular in 2011, especially with summer weddings.

Our other main inspiration was 'Old School Hollywood Glamour'. Think satin dresses, diamante jewellery and a black and cream theme from old photos. Check out our Vintage Cameo and Bejewelled invitations which match this theme perfectly. Again I think this trend will continue as the vintage look is still very popular, and this look is great for the bride that loves vintage but not florals!

For 2011 we see new inspirations coming from Alice in Wonderland and English Eccentrics .. taking the garden party look to a new and quirky level. We see lots of fun floral arrangements in teapots and old bottles, and beautiful mixes of tweed and lace. Pocket watches and old telephones used in decor could be fun and don't forget your wellies for that perfect festival wedding in a field!

Our new English Eccentrics range was launched on Friday 7th January.

Boho Bride - wedding inspiration that you will be drooling over

Boho Bride was launched in Oct 2010 as a place to share my design ideas

with other Brides-to-be and those who simply love beautiful aesthetics and

design!

After ‘treading the boards’ in London theatres for a few years, I worked

until recently, as a Home Designer for a well known UK department store –

my B’Maids thought it would be funny if I channeled my wedding ‘visions’

into creating mood boards for them…

This planted the seed in my mind, that while I might have a clear design

direction that I want to push our wedding towards – others might not. In

short, my aim is that Boho Bride offers you a little inspiration for your

special day.

Paper Whispers - Wedding Stationery that you will be shouting about.

We love speaking to other wedding suppliers and this time we are delighted to chat with Ruby Majani of Paper Whispers. Here is what she had to say -
As cliche as it sounds, weddings have a way of being forever inspirational. I had always had a passion for art and design, but it was only when planning my wedding in 2008 that I truly used my crafting skills. The wedding invitations were a big hit with my guests gushing about them for months before the event. The name of the company, Paper Whispers, was coined from this whispering when the invitations were received. The original design that inspired this is the 'Romance' invitation.

I loved the creative process and I knew I had to change career paths. I was a scientist (I still say I am a scientist at heart) and I am now a full time wedding stationery designer for my own little firm Paper Whispers.

For the beginning of 2011, we have introduced some new ranges.
We now have very chic and affordable flat cards such as our 'Bejewelled' Invitation.

We also have a new range of photocards, for before and even after the wedding as a thank you. These are truly bespoke cards which allow you to include a personal photo and/or the professional ones from your wedding.

Finally we also have a DIY range for brides who want to do it for themselves.

Planning a Wedding in 2011?

So the sparkly ring is now firmly placed on the third finger. Now what?

One of the first things a couple must decide is the budget for their wedding and who is going to pay for it.

In 2009 and 2010 the most popular options for paying for a wedding were - the couple paying for it themselves (50%) and the couple and both families contributing (43%). Hitched W.I.F.E

So how does that fair when it come to the invitations??? No probs -

Mr & Mrs J Blogg and their daugther Laura together with Mr & Mrs Smith and their son Scott request the pleasure of the company of ......... sorted!

The Budget - budgets for wedding range from £5000 to £15000 ( not including the honeymoon)

So how do you save money but have all the style your heart desires for your dream day.

Vintage is a HUGE theme - so work that. Yes that means getting out the old and make it new. Have you considered using your mum's or grandmothers dress? With a few alterations this could become a beautiful sentiment on your big day.

Accessories - again most mum's and grandmothers have pearls so why not consider wearing those. Or what about taking a treasured bracelet, brooch or necklace and having it made into a vintage side tiara, headband or comb. We specialise in this service which makes an affordable option - and what's more no one else will ever wear the same one! For more information contact us at weddingandbaby@yahoo.co.uk or visit the site http://www.weddingandbaby.co.uk/

Stationery and Cakes can often be made by yourself or a talented friend. Beware, if you are not 100% sure of doign this leave it to the experts it will save you money in the long run as well as stress. Checkout http://www.i-craft.co.uk/ http://www.cupcouture.co.uk/ http://www.decadencecupcakes.co.uk/

Favours - not always an option, but definitely a lovely gesture that every guest will thank you for. Again these don't need to be expensive and many people often make their own.
To save money and stress why not buy the main components for a shop and decorate them yourself. http://www.seasonaldecorations.co.uk/

Flowers - to save money opt for flowers that are in season. For table centrepieces then opt for some lovely vases/ birdcages or candles that can be given as gifts to special people once the reception is over.

Cars - do you know someone who has a fab car? Why not as if they can help out on the big day. Or save money on car's completely by having you ceremony and reception in the one location.

Bands - ask about. Most freinds and relatives know if people in bands - so check them our for discounts and special offers.

Come and tell us how you are saving money!

After that Lu-B-Lu Cake an Cupcakes was born and she decided to put an advert on the hospital intranet site, which is where she got lots of enquiries and her first couple of orders.
Since then she has been advertising in local shops and on the internet. The orders are now flowing in.

Christine soon got her website www.lu-b-lucakesandcupcakes.co.uk up and running.

Inkydoodle - quirky wedding stationery that is just divine.

We are delighted to have spoken with http://www.inkydoodle.co.uk/ about their divine wedding stationery. Read on to find Delicious designs that would be perfect for the Vintage themed wedding.

How did Inkydoodle start?
When my fiancé and I first started planning our wedding we spent ages trawling the internet for wedding stationery that was bright, colourful and a little bit different; we were looking for something that was really us. All we could find were hundreds of websites selling cream pearlescent stationery with ribbon, doves, rings and bells that wasn't really us. As a result I created inkydoodle.

 What is your background?
I have worked in events for many years but only really got into the wedding industry recently as I had a baby 7 months ago and I'm trying to launch inkydoodle so that I can quit my day job and work for myself. I'm hugely inspired by anyone who has managed to set up their own business and make a success of it!

Tell us about your designs?
In terms of stationery inspiration, most of the stationery in the collection is inspired by weddings I have been to. Blogs with real weddings are also a huge inspiration, I follow about 4/5 religiously and they give me lots of ideas. Sometimes inspiration comes from the strangest places, like the latest clothes fashion or home magazines!
Inkydoodle designs wedding and special event stationery with an edge, for couples looking for something a little bit different.
We steer clear of the classic cream pearlescent card with ribbons, stick on pearls and diamante, while that’s exactly what many brides are looking for it’s just not what inkydoodle is about. We aim to be different, targeting brides who want something against the norm with clean crisp colourful print.

What services do you offer wedding couples?
We offer 2 types of service, ‘from the collection’ and ‘bespoke’.
Our collection is growing all the time, so quickly at the moment that I can’t update the website fast enough! Our facebook page currently holds more designs than the website! Many of the ranges in the collection are inspired by real weddings and they can all be tailored specifically to yours: we can recreate them in any colour with wording to suit you.

The bespoke service is very exciting, we work with the bride and groom or party/event organiser (don’t forget we do special event stationery too) to discuss their event theme, colour scheme, the couples likes & dislikes, their dress sense likes and dislikes, hobbies they have. Once we have all this information we go away and create 2 ideas, we then work with the couple to tweak their favourite design giving us the finished product - completely bespoke and 100% unique!

Our service is really personal; we prefer to discuss the couple’s requirements over the phone or via e-mail so we get their vision just right. A wedding is one of the most important days of a person’s life and the invitation is the first impression closest friends and family receive, it sets the scene for the main event.
